Project Description:
The existing Motorola factory in South Queensferry was closed and purchased by Edgar Allan, part of the Balfour Beatty Group of Companies.
The premises are currently being converted to a "Foundry" at a total cost of £20,000,000 which includes the construction costs, installation of overhead gantry cranes, the purchase of new mechanical equipment and the transfer of existing equipment from their existing premises in Bathgate. Edgar Allan are world leaders in the manufacture of railway tracks.
Our part of this spend was a £5,800,000 refurbishment of the existing Building and an extension to the existing Building.
The contract period was only 6 months and involved crucial co-ordination of both our Building and Civils Divisions.
Works Included:
- Concrete Foundations
- Drainage
- Floor Slabs
- New structural steelwork for extension
- Steel wall cladding and roof panels
- Construction of 7no. 50m2 x 5m deep furnace pits
- Structural steelwork in the existing building had to be remodelled to accommodate the installation of gantry cranes
