Project Description:
Remediation of a 16 Acre former landfill site, to provide suitable platform for new retail outlet.
Works Included:
The first step was to excavate to a depth of 3m which involved approx 120,000 m3 of refuse/contaminated soils.
This material was then "screened" in order to separate the non- compostables eg. Plastics, glass etc, which were subsequently disposed with off site (approx 40000m3).
The remaining material went through further screening and was then stockpiled for re-use.
Following the screening process the decomposed soils and other matter were then mixed in a 3:1 ratio with approx 30,000m3 of imported stone and spread over the site. Due to the value engineering process by remediating the materials on site for re-use, we were able to reduce the amount of imported materials required thus providing a saving for the client.
The whole area was then rolled and compacted to bring the site back up to the required levels. A further 250mm thick layer of stone was then introduced to form the working platform at the centre of the site.
