Radiation Chamber

University of Strathclyde

This was a one piece concrete chamber that was constructed within the Colville Building for Strathclyde University.

The chamber is utilised for material testing and research with radiation which required the walls to be constructed 1 metre thick in order to contain the radiation.

The main challenges on this project were mainly Health and Safety related with the works being carried out within a “live” Campus environment. The other main concern was restricted access, as the works had to be carried out in a Laboratory situated one floor above road level, which required that all materials be man handled onto site with the exception of the concrete, which was pumped.

The contract value was £58,000, over a duration of 12 weeks.
