Luddon Really Do Represent Safety!

21 March 2016

On the 8th and 9th of March, Frank Quinn of Luddon Training Centre delivered Safety Representatives training to 11 INEOS and PetroINEOS based contractor safety representatives on behalf of Luddon Construction.

This two-day training course provides candidates with an understanding of the roles and responsibilities of being safety representatives and is also a first of its kind.

This course was fully supported by the GCSA (Grangemouth Contractors Safety Alliance) and the GCSA Core Group. The need for this specific training was raised through the long-running and successful GCSA forum. Luddon were then quick to offer our full support. Our training department were able to develop a full bespoke training course, that is currently awaiting accreditation from IOSH (Institution of Occupational Safety and Health).

Employees who attend this safety representatives course will make positive contributions to the continuous improvement of health and safety at work and when delegates return to work they will be able to make practical improvements to workplace safety with an increased knowledge of how to analyse hazards and risks. Other elements covered in the course include:

  • Understanding Hazards, Risk and Risk Control
  • Health & Safety Legislation and Safety Management Systems
  • Accident Reporting and Investigation
  • Role of the Safety Representative, Safety Observation Conversation and Worker Engagement

Frank Quinn said “I was impressed with the existing health and safety knowledge of the candidates and how seriously they all took their roles as safety representatives”

One delegate said “I enjoyed gaining a better understanding of safety legislation and learning how to carry out workplace visits/safety inspections better”

Luddon Training continue to develop and grow and also relished the opportunity to develop this new and bespoke training course for delivery in any sector that understands the importance of its Safety Representatives. Safety Representatives training can also be viewed as a new and great precursor to the already successful and popular IOSH Working Safety and also seen as a first step on the safety ladder!
