Safety Pays for Lanarkshire Kidney Patients Association12 April 2017
Following the great achievement of the Luddon Construction workforce and sub-contractors involved on the Security and Accommodation Project within Grangemouth for their client BP in passing 116,000 man hours without a loss time injury or environmental incident, a charity donation of £1500 was donated to the Lanarkshire Kidney Patients Association.
The Project has set several targets to be met without a loss time injury or environmental incident and due to the commitment to safety by everyone involved, the project has now made 4 donations to various charities.
Ronnie Savage (Luddon Safety Advisor) explained “Luddon Construction are a company that values the workforce and their efforts in achieving safety targets whilst working in a high risk construction environment. The charity donations are a way of recognising their efforts and saying thank you”.
The Lanarkshire Kidney Patients Association charity was a personal choice nominated by Luddon operative Thomas Griffin and his wife Elizabeth following the dialysis care given to her mother.
Elizabeth said “the care given to my mother by the wonderful staff here helped greatly. They do so much for the patients and I was happy to be able to nominate the charity when Thomas told me about the donation”.
The Lanarkshire Kidney Patients Association is a registered charity based in the renal unit of Monklands Hospital for the past 24 years providing assistance to any patient on dialysis who may be in need.
Karen Casey (Charity Secretary) stated “2017 is going to be a very busy year for us as we have our 25th anniversary and we are hoping to raise enough money to refurbish our garden, which is used by the renal ward patient’s visitors and staff. We also support transplant patients as well and next year see the British Transplant Games coming to North Lanarkshire and we are hoping to enter a team for the first time.
We also support organ donation and do this by attending varies events to give out organ donor cards and information. Most members of our committee are former dialysis patients who have all had successful kidney transplants and want to give back to the hospital that looked after them.
In addition to the donation, Luddon Construction are looking to help with the refurbishment of the garden. Watch this space.
