Works are advancing on the 1st Phase of the Jackton Spine Road for the new Cala Homes (West) Development, which forms part of the East Kilbride Community Growth Area.

The works will create a major link road from Jackton to Lindsayfield as well as a new entrance and road widening from Eaglesham Road to Jackton Road.

A section of the new adoptable carriageway is to be constructed on very soft soils to depths of up to 13 metres from existing ground level. The solution for this contractor designed portion, which after gaining design approval from the local roads authority, consists of a combination of deep soil mixing solutions.

Allu Mass Mixing up to 5 metres in depth will be utilised on some sections with other sections utilising deep soil mixed columns installed at up to 13 metres in depth with a reinforced concrete bearing slab constructed on top, followed by the required road construction make up above that.

This will be the first time that this designed solution has been utilised below an adoptable carriageway in Scotland.
