Project Description:

Excavation to expose the incoming 30“ main line directly outside the Kinneil Plant, Grangemouth. The work involved the installation of a temporary works cofferdam to allow hand and mechanical excavation to expose the main pipe. Once exposed this allowed the pipe to be inspected and repaired. The pipe itself runs directly under the privately owned Kinneil historic railway line which has meant this project has not only been done under a time constraint, but geographically and environmentally very challenging 

Works Included:

• Removal of large sections of railway and trees
• Removal of badger sets under strict supervision
• Installation of temporary piles and permanent galvanised piles to allow access to the pipe
• Excavation of the rail embankment to expose the existing Forties pipeline - 250m^³ of soil. Carried out by suction excavation
• Excavation of rock around the existing pipeline under strict vibration guidelines
• Construction of new husker walls, gabion baskets and delta lock walls for slope stabilisation
• Backfilling of excavation once pipework has been signed off by inspection
• Construction of new drainage to the railway line
• Relaying of the railway lines to match the existing profile
• Survey of the railway line during a 6 month settlement period after the works are complete
