Gilmerton Road Resurfacing

Project Description:

The works were the resurfacing of the main carriageway on Gilmerton Road over a length of 1.6km between Walter Scot Avenue and Moredun Dykes Road

Works Included:

  • Temporary accommodation
  • Provision of information boards and signs
  • Traffic safety and management over 9 phases
  • Site clearance including the taking up and disposal of pre-cast concrete slabs and kerbs, bollards, ironwork, masonry walls, road studs and pedestrian guardrails, natural stone kerbs, traffic signs and posts, lighting columns, pedestrian push button units and traffic signal controller units and electrical disconnections
  • Installation of high visibility pedestrian guardrails
  • Drainage works and service ducts, including construction of chambers and gullies
  • Adjustment/replacement of covers and gratings
  • Maintenance of road gullies
  • Earthworks, excavation and disposal
  • 7,910m2 of AC20 dense binder to Cl 906
  • 20,686m2 of HRA 30/14 surf to Cl 910 including 5,200m2 with red pcc’s
  • Application of bond coat using our own tanker sprayer
  • Breaking up of existing footways and footpaths
  • Pre-cast concrete road kerbs (125mm x 255mm) and edging kerbs (50mm x 150mm)
  • Relaying of natural stone kerbs
  • 2,950m2 of footway construction and re-construction
  • Traffic signs and posts
  • Traffic signal installation
  • Road markings in both thermoplastic and MMA
  • Stainless steel bollards
  • Illuminated and non-illuminated bollards
  • Street lighting including ducting and electrical works 
  • Stonework and street furniture
  • Ground preparation, seeding and turfing
