Project Description:

Design, build, commission and training of end user staff for a 43,000 tonne per annum (tpa) Anaerobic Digestion and Composting Plant, which will cater for all of Fife Council’s green waste (40,000 tpa) and Category 3 food waste (3,000 tpa)

Works Included:

  • Design of plant including assistance with Fife Council’s PPC application
  • Assistance to SLR with planning application and full submission and approval of building warrant application
  • Extensive site investigation works to achieve suitable knowledge to allow effective ground engineering solution to be arrived at
  • Full process and mechanical and electrical detailed design
  • Piling works
  • Gas protection measures
  • Gas tight concrete construction to fermentation tanks
  • Construction of reception hall with all associated drainage and process pipework
  • Construction of aerobic composting bays
  • Supply and installation of shredder and screening equipment in dedicated area of building
  • Construction of pasteurisation tunnels
  • Extensive external and internal drainage works including SEPA approved SUDS measures
  • Installation of service track from new installation to energy compound including new gas and water mains and various duct banks
  • Erection of bunded fuel station for all operational plant
  • Structural steel and cladding for building around various process areas, including rigorous corrosion protection measures due to the extremely corrosive nature of the internal atmosphere of the building
  • Full mechanical and electrical installation both internal and external to the building including sophisticated gas extraction system and patented composting technologies
  • Erection of standalone office complex including main plant room for complete works
  • Construction of new Scottish Power substation with associated ducting
  • Construction of large leca media bio filter complete with 18m exhaust stack
  • Cold and hot commissioning of the plant, including training of Fife Council staff during commissioning period
  • Achieving animal bi-products regulations (ABPR) compliance and approval for complete plant
  • Fencing to ABPR requirements
  • Construction of concrete access road and turning areas
  • Construction of storage tanks for percolate, leachate and oxidation of excess fluids prior to discharge to sewer
