Project Description:

This project for the Central Scotland Green Network Trust involved the creation of a new shared surface pathway through a woodland to join form the connection between two parts of the community and promote walking and cycling within the community

Works Included:

  • Construction of a new 900m section of 3m wide shared cycle/foot path
  • Site protection during construction to protect the public at access points and along the sections under
  • construction through the wooded area
  • Site clearance including removal of trees, stumps and bushes to create a route through the woodland
  • Construction of path drainage/culverts to maintain the natural flow of local burns/watercourses
  • Cut to fill exercise along the route to regulate levels across the route and ensure design gradients were achieved
  • Soft spots were identified through testing and infilled using approved fill to specification
  • Path make up construction included a 200mm thick Type 1 foundation layer along the length of the shared path
  • 1800m of edge kerbs were installed on both sides of the path in line with construction
  • 4000m2 of surfacing works for including 100mm porous concrete base course and a 30mm porous surface course selected to keep the finished surface free from water
  • Upgrade works of 300m existing footpath from the woodland path to the centre of Wishaw Main Street
  • Construction of a number of tie in works to accommodate local access and path end tie-ins
  • Construction of a brick and fence feature at the entrance to the woodlands
  • Landscaping works including the finishing of path edges and planting of 2000m2 of new woodland trees to replace those removed along with filling in the gaps in the existing tree line
  • Installation of new wooden knee-high fence to stop short cuts by vehicles
  • Installation of direction/information signs and bollards
  • Installation of solar lighting at the edges for people to follow
