Business Development Advisor (Glasgow)

One of the Country’s leading privately owned Construction Companies Luddon Construction Ltd is an extremely successful and well-founded Civil Engineering, Building and Surfacing Contractor based in Glasgow, with operations and projects now spanning throughout the whole of the UK.

We are currently recruiting for a Glasgow Head Office based Business Development Advisor to join our established Pre-Construction team. The ideal candidate should be self-motivated, ambitious, organised and confident.

Having initially gained a level of knowledge, experience and understanding of the Company following your commencement with us as a Business Development Advisor, with our full support and guidance your responsibilities will evolve to include the following:

  • Identifying and attracting new and potential business opportunities within a range of construction industry sectors including; Power & Energy, Renewables, Industrial, Food and Drink, Retail, Housing, Drainage and Road Surfacing
  • Building and developing existing and new client relationships
  • Pro-actively managing, hosting and participating in a range of client hospitality events
  • Producing reports and Company literature using InDesign Software and Microsoft packages
  • Reporting into and communicating daily with the Senior Business Development Manager
  • Travelling to locations within Scotland to meet potential and existing clients
  • Strategic diary management
  • Retaining business data such as current and upcoming tenders and existing projects etc
  • Working collaboratively alongside the Estimating and Pre-Construction department
  • Working to important deadlines
  • Contributing and presenting confidently to external clients and within Divisional Management monthly meetings

 

For our Business Development Advisor role we are looking for the following Skills and Experience:

Essential

  • Positive and proactive personality and mindset
  • You will be organised with a high attention to detail
  • IT literacy – MS Packages Teams, Access, Word, Excel
  • Full UK Driving Licence as travel is required
  • You will have the ability to retain business data
  • Must be competent to present within a management setting

Desirable

  • Previous experience in a Business Development or similar role
  • Previous experience of driving and contributing to business growth
  • Construction background knowledge and/or experience
  • Graduate Degree/HND/HNC in a Hospitality, Retail or a Business related sector.
  • InDesign Software experience

Buyer (Glasgow)

Our buying department have never been busier therefore we are now seeking to recruit a Buyer with experience of the construction industry to join and support the Luddon Procurement team.

As one of our buyers you will support the Luddon Procurement team in delivering a first-class Buying service in line with the business Procurement process.

 

Key responsibilities and accountabilities:

  • Fulfilling requisitions received from site teams ensuring delivery timescales are met.
  • Place orders with approved suppliers taking into account project material budgets in line with the business Procurement process.
  • Evaluation and analysis of supplier quotes based on Commercial/Technical/HSE criteria.
  • Identify key trends or opportunities for cost reduction.
  • Identify new suppliers focusing on added value for money, Innovation, service and product quality.
  • Negotiate effectively with suppliers to ensure best market price.
  • Supplier performance management.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with site personal to ensure best procurement service and understand project requirements.
  • Effective engagement with Internal Stakeholders including Estimating, Commercial and Finance teams.
  • Ensuring accurate reporting of savings and value add activities.

 

The person we are looking for should:

  • Have relevant work experience in the industry and, whilst a CIPS qualification is desirable, it is not essential where there is an equivalent qualification.
  • Have experience of ERP Purchase order processing systems eg. Evode/Oracle/Coins.
  • Have the ability to communicate at all levels and build effective working relationships.
  • Be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office, excel, word, outlook etc
  • Possess excellent negotiation skills.
  • Have the ability to work in a fast-paced team environment whilst planning and delivering to project deadlines.
  • Have attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Be committed to continuing professional development.

Apprenticeship Scheme 2024

Our 2024 apprenticeship programme is open and waiting for your application!

We recognise that Apprenticeships help us identify new talent, build new skills in our workforce and increase diversity within the workplace. 

We are offering a 2-4 year apprenticeship programme (dependent on occupation) with the potential to be made permanent and further develop your career. We are looking for candidates with strong ambition and passion for a career within the construction industry. Throughout your apprenticeship you will gain valuable and varied experience.   

 

Civil Engineer

Civil engineers plan, design and manage large construction projects. This could include bridges, buildings, transport links and other major structures. Engineers undertake surveying and setting out duties in addition to checking drawings and assisting in scheduling of materials. Communication is an integral part of the role as an engineer will liaise with consultants, contractors and other departmental managers.   

 

Joiner

As a joiner, you will be responsible for using casts (‘shutters’) to form concrete slabs, support beams and walls to support the building process during construction. The job also involves creating formwork for bridges, foundations, beams and staircases.

In this role you would also build structures on site using timber or putting together metal frames that have been made elsewhere, dismantling shuttering without damaging them so they can be used again and measuring, cutting and shaping wood or metal.
