Project Description:

Road construction/reconfiguration of existing roads to facilitate access to Griffin Wind Farm.

Works Included:

  • Site clearance
  • Road junction reconfigurations
  • Traffic management – close liaison required with authorities to co-ordinate closures and diversions to minimise disruption to local users, whilst maintaining tight programme
  • Public utility works – BT fibre optic cable re-location was challenging due to location
  • 30,000m³ cut and fill of new carriageway route
  • Retention of sloped areas by installation of over 500 soil nails 6m long and a combination of grout stabilisation, gabion baskets and reinforced concrete wing walls to the railway bridge
  • Lowering of existing carriageway beneath existing railway bridge, incorporating permanent reinforced concrete structures and increased capacity drainage
  • Protection of watercourse including pollution measures
  • Removing Japanese knotweed
  • Set up of compound in rural environment
  • Liaison with Network rail including extensive form C temporary works design
  • Liaison with local landowners and other stakeholders
  • Close liaison with statutory bodies such as SEPA
  • Liaison with local wind farm group to ensure good relations
